Understanding place value up to millions, comparing and ordering integers, negative numbers and rounding to required degrees of accuracy.
03
Integers — Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division
Mental and written methods for the four operations with positive and negative integers in real-world contexts.
04
Number Sequences and Patterns
Term-to-term and position-to-term rules, arithmetic and geometric sequences and applying sequences to real problems.
05
Addition of Whole Numbers
Written and mental addition of multi-digit numbers including carrying — applied to financial and practical scenarios.
06
Subtraction of Whole Numbers
Written and mental subtraction including decomposition — applied to budget calculations and measurement problems.
07
Multiplication of Whole Numbers and Decimals
Long multiplication, grid method and multiplying decimals — with applications in area, pricing and scaling.
08
Division of Whole Numbers
Short and long division, interpreting remainders, dividing in context — including sharing, rate and proportion problems.
09
Addition of Decimal Numbers
Adding decimals in aligned columns — applied to money, measurement and data recording scenarios.
10
Subtraction of Decimal Numbers
Subtracting decimals correctly — applied to change calculations, data differences and measurement tasks.
11
Long Multiplication
Multiplying large numbers using the formal long multiplication algorithm — applied to area, cost and quantity problems.
12
Division Including Remainders
Dividing with remainders, expressing remainders as decimals or fractions and interpreting results appropriately in context.
13
Understanding Decimals
Decimal place value, converting between fractions and decimals, ordering decimals and working with decimal precision.
14
Rounding Decimals
Rounding to one, two or three decimal places and to significant figures — knowing when and why to round in practical contexts.
15
Recurring Decimals
Recognising recurring decimals, converting fractions to recurring decimals and understanding their practical implications.
16
Understanding and Using a Formula
Substituting values into formulae, rearranging simple formulae and applying formulae in area, speed, distance and financial contexts.
17
Symbols and Mathematical Notation
Understanding and correctly using mathematical symbols — =, ≠, <, >, ≤, ≥, ±, ∑ — in problems and written work.
18
Fractions — Understanding and Simplifying
Numerator and denominator, equivalent fractions, simplifying to lowest terms and converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions.
19
Fractions — Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing
All four operations with fractions including those with different denominators — with real-world applications.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I use a calculator?
Yes — a calculator is permitted in part of the exam. The programme includes both calculator and non-calculator practice so you are fully prepared for both sections.
How many topics are in the exam?
The exam covers Number, Fractions/Percentages/Ratio, Measure Shape and Space, and Data Handling — all taught throughout the course.
How long does the course take?
Most learners complete within 8–20 weeks depending on starting level and the number of hours studied per week.
What if I haven't done Maths since school?
The course starts from foundational concepts and builds progressively. Many of our most successful learners have been away from Maths for many years.
